1.8 What Do Animals Eat?

Do you eat like a horse? Or more like a bird? As you might expect, different animals eat different things. Some animals specialize in eating one particularly rich food source, while others eat whatever they can find. This video segment samples the diversity of feeding habits among some of the world's creatures.

After that, teacher can do some test by asking the students which are,

  • Do all living things eat?
  • Plants don't eat but they need energy. Where do they get it?

For most animals, moving from place to place is nearly as routines as eating and just as important. This video segment explores the variety of methods animals use to get around in their habitat and helps illustrate the connection between form and function.

Teacher can do several questions to students which are,

  • What kinds of living things move? What kinds don't move?
  • Do plants move?
  • Why do living things move?

An animal makes its living by finding food. Plant eaters have a relatively easy time of it, while meat eaters must work a little harder for their next meal. This video segment explores the wide range of food-finding strategies that exist in the animal world and identifies some of the physical and behavioural adaptations that make them effective.
